Senior Microbiologist

We are currently seeking an experienced and highly skilled Senior Microbiologist to join our team. As a Senior Microbiologist, you will play a critical role in overseeing the microbiology laboratory’s compliance and ensuring that all microbiological testing procedures and methods are performed accurately and efficiently. You will be responsible for managing the laboratory operations, driving continuous improvement initiatives, and ensuring adherence to quality standards and regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Laboratory Oversight: Provide leadership and guidance to the microbiology laboratory staff, ensuring compliance with standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements (e.g., FDA, ISO, etc.). Ensure the proper execution of microbiological testing methods, including sample preparation, plating, incubation, and interpretation of results.
- Compliance Management: Monitor and maintain the laboratory’s compliance with relevant quality standards and regulations. Stay updated on industry developments and changes in regulations related to microbiology testing. Implement necessary changes and improvements to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Quality Assurance: Develop and maintain quality control procedures and processes to ensure accurate and reliable microbiological testing results. Perform regular audits and inspections to identify areas for improvement and implement corrective actions as needed.
- Efficiency and Continuous Improvement: Streamline laboratory operations to maximize efficiency, reduce turnaround time, and optimize resource utilization. Identify opportunities for process improvement and implement initiatives to enhance productivity, accuracy, and cost-effectiveness.
- Training and Development: Provide technical training and mentorship to laboratory personnel, ensuring their competency in microbiological testing techniques, equipment operation, and safety protocols. Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
- Equipment and Inventory Management: Oversee the maintenance and calibration of laboratory equipment and instruments. Coordinate with vendors for repairs, upgrades, and procurement of necessary supplies and consumables.
- Documentation and Reporting: Ensure accurate and timely documentation of laboratory activities, test results, and data analysis. Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations on laboratory performance, quality metrics, and improvement initiatives for management and regulatory agencies.
- Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including quality assurance, research and development, and production, to address microbiological issues, implement corrective actions, and support product development activities.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. degree in Microbiology or a related field.
- Extensive experience in a microbiology laboratory, including hands-on expertise in various microbiological testing methods and techniques.
- In-depth knowledge of regulatory requirements and quality standards applicable to microbiology laboratories.
- Strong understanding of laboratory operations, quality control, and quality assurance processes.
- Proficient in data analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
- Familiarity with laboratory information management systems (LIMS) and other relevant software applications.
