State Income Tax Manager – Rosemont, IL
Responsible for supervising preparation of workpapers and returns and participate in state tax research and planning, provide guidance on state tax law changes, and lead state audit defense efforts.
Key Responsibilities
Supervise timely completion and review of standalone entity and consolidated tax returns for state income/franchise taxes
Supervise calculations for state and local estimated tax payments, including, but not limited to, tracking payments by entity and reconciling state income/franchise tax payables
Assist with analysis, tracking and process enhancement for quarterly state income tax provision in accordance with ASC 740
Manage timely completion of multiple projects while balancing staff assignments to maximize productivity and developmental opportunities
Analyze tax data and prepare complex tax models
Use state expertise to participate in tax planning and analysis of opportunities versus implications to assist with launching business strategies and initiatives
Assist state cash tax forecasting efforts specific to tax installments and payables.
Identify state tax issues and opportunities and provide recommendation for action to tax leadership
Manage state tax audits, including maintaining relationship with state tax auditors and defending the Company’s tax return positions while ensuring timely completion of the audit process
Manage and mentor a staff of tax professionals, including setting development plans and measuring results
Monitor changes in tax legislation, update management and team about discovered modifications, and initiate alterations to comply with authoritative requirements
Suggest and implement process efficiencies
Collaborate with members within tax department and with professionals across the business. Develop and leverage internal and external networks and resources to achieve business goals
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s degree preferably in Accounting, Tax, Finance or related field
Advanced degree such as Masters in Tax or JD and/or CPA, a plus
Strong federal and multi-state income / franchise tax experience
Experience in public accounting or internal tax department with a focus on multi state tax
2+ years of supervisory experience and ability to manage and develop staff
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Willingness to assume responsibility for key projects
Excellent organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deliverables
Data analytics and experience with Tableau, a plus
Proficiency in Microsoft products including Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
Proficiency in CorpTax, OneSource, FAS, and Microsoft Dynamics, a plus
